General Information
Science Documentary hosted by Charles Kay and published by BBC broadcasted as part of BBC Horizon series in 1980 - English narration
Information
HORIZON - BEYOND THE MILKY WAY (1980)
First broadcast in Britain on BBC2 15 September 1980
BUT this is a file from the programme as repackaged for broadcast abroad. Except for the new narration voiceover, at just over 55 minutes, it is probably essentially as complete as the original. The title and introduction summary from this foreign version has been included as a separate file, which can be used as a sampler.
This programme covers basic extragalactic astronomy, beginning with the largest Victorian telescope built by Lord Rosse, then compares the more modern Hubble ground observatory. The changing knowledge of the large scale structure of the universe and different types of galaxies is investigated.
From an NTSC EP off-air VHS recording made abroad in 1981. The video is good as the off-air analog source allows and the audio is clear. Cropped when converted to XVid to give clean frame edges.
